School Lunches

We have our own kitchen - run by Bath and North East Somerset School Meals Service from April 2015 - and meals are prepared and cooked on site.  Your child can stay for a hot meal, bring sandwiches or go home for lunch.

Meals cost £2.20 per day for children in Years 3 - 6, payable in advance or on the day.

We have an exciting menu, featuring among other things Meat Free days, daily fresh fruit and salad carousels, organic yogurt and freshly baked bread, as well as children’s favourite, filled jacket potatoes. Milk is offered to all children at lunchtime, including all children entitled to Free School Meals. BANES School Meals Service is committed to the Soil Association’s  Food For Life initiative and their menus have achieved the Bronze Chartermark standard.  For more information visit the Food for Life website at: www.foodforlife.org.uk

All children in Foundation Stage 2, Year 1 and Year 2 are now able to have school lunches free of charge as part of the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.

Menus and order forms are available from outside the school office and are changed every 2 terms.  The menu operates on a 3-week cycle. Special diets can be catered for by telephoning BANES Catering on 07530 263081.

Please send your order in to school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and if your child is in Years 3 - 6 and you pay for lunches please pay by cash or cheque (payable to aBITHAM BROOK PRIMARY SCHOOL with your child’s name and school written on reverse).

FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR CHILDREN IN FOUNDATION STAGE, YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

All children in Foundation Stage 2, Year 1 and Year 2 are now entitled to Free School Meals under the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.  However, if your child would have been entitled to free school meals under the old system because you are receiving qualifying benefits (see below), the government will give your school a Pupil Premium of £1,320. But for the school and your child to benefit from this money we need to know that you are receiving a qualifying benefit. If you are, please let us know by completing the form below:

Parents of children in Years 3 to 6 should apply for free school meals on the form below if they are in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits listed, as again, the school can claim £1,900 Pupil Premium for their child:

Qualifying benefits:

- Income Support

- Income-based Job Seekers Allowance (NOT contribution based JSA)

- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (NO contribution based ESA)

- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

- National Asylum Seekers Support (NASS)

- The guarantee element of State Pension Credit

- Child Tax Credit (you must NOT be entitled to Working Tax Credit  and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue &  Customs) that does not exceed £16,190 (April 2012)

- Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ - the payment you receive for a further four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

If you currently receive Working Tax Credit (other than the ‘run-on’) you are not eligible to claim.


Milk is available to under fives free through the Cool Milk Scheme and all new starters are registered by the school. You will need to set up an account at www.coolmilk.com. Once your child is five years old if you wish to pay for them to continue to receive milk.

Milk will be available free of charge to all children having school lunches.

DRINKS IN SCHOOL

We actively encourage children to bring water bottles to school and they may have free access to them during the day.


Fizzy drinks are not permitted but fruit juices can be consumed as part of a packed lunch.


FREE FRUIT AND VEGETABLES FOR SCHOOLS


We offer every Key Stage One child a free piece of fruit under the Free Fruit/Vegetables for Schools Scheme and any spare fruit is made available to older children.orking Tax Credit
